Cubus am Seestern, Düsseldorf

Cubus am Seestern, Düsseldorf

The office block Cubus Seestern is a building with an innovative double facade that can respond to the external temperature. The mode of action of the double facade was tested and was optimised by our simulations. The facade fulfils the high requirements in terms of comfort and allows for high levels of energy conservation.

The facade adapts itself to the weather: it opens and closes by itself. In summer, overheating cannot set in since the external disk can open outwards at full height. The facade imitates, hence, processes we know from nature, such as ruffled feathers, or the opening and closing of flower buds.
